About attraction, neediness, dependence and exploitation ...

I believe that human nature is basically good, but there are traps associated with the ego that are very easy to fall into.

When we desperately need something from someone, or are totally attracted to that person, and see no other way of accomplishing what we desire through other options, we develop dependence.

There is nothing wrong with interdependence, as long as there is balance in it, but things can go wrong especially in relationships where the "providing" party feels our need (or our strong attraction to it), and exploits it in a nasty way.
The person who holds all the power in his hand and grants his favors, may fall into the familiar trap of the ego, and claim the right to charge a very high price to those who depend on his mercy.
When the "provider" has only a loose connection to the virtues of fairness and compassion, the situation can escalate into an abusive and destructive relationship.

One cannot judge the person who has developed dependence, because in many cases it happened because of complex circumstances.
In fact, in most cases, it is almost impossible to release dependence on something or someone that is so crucial to our existence.

If you look closely into your own selves, you will realize that even in your private lives, in your relationships, in the family, the social circle or in the workplace, almost all of us depend to a certain extent on another person or an environment that we simply cannot break away from.

We do not live in a vacuum, humans need each other and rely on each other, even if it involves a high price.

Raising our awareness, and recognizing the fact that through our neediness we gave all our power to someone else, is a good start to improving the situation.

In order to resolve extreme cases in which our dependence causes us real suffering, it is recommended to work with the letter combination Yod-Tod-Yod (י.י.י) from the 72 names of God.
